The Welsh Solar CarDr. Sparey-Taylor is working on secondment at CSER. Production of Tân-Y-Wawr will be re-commencing shortly when the Electric and Hybrid Technology Lab is opened.
Team Gwawr are the Welsh solar car team. The team is based at Glyndwr University, Wrexham, but team members are welcomed from across Wales. Gwawr first produced a solar car named Gwawr, Welsh for Dawn, to enter into the Panasonic World Solar Challenge in Australia in 2007. The car was built for just £8000, using off the shelf technology, sourced where possible with parts from within Wales. Following success there, winning the Environmental Awareness Award, the team was inspired to encourage young people in green innovation. The team designed Nos Gwawr II, a scale solar car, driven by the teams youngest member, now aged 8. The car is used as a teaching and display model both nationally and internationally. Gwawr are now developing their latest solar car, Tân-Y-Wawr, with a view to compete in the next world solar challenge (www.worldsolarchallenge.org) If you are a business working in the renewable energy sector and would like to collaborate on the solar car please contact Dr. Graham Sparey-Taylor on 01745 535159 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
